Here are some fun illustrations I created for a new Activity book by Carlton press, it's a You+Me kind of book in which 2 friends, siblings or parent and child can take turns or share a double page to doodle / colour / cut / stick and play. These ones below are mix and match animals and crazy island stickers.
Yay, finally I can reveal what I've been working on for over a year: My book called Our ABC of Yoga will be published this September by Quarto Books USA and is now available to pre order via their website. Here's what it's about: Pairing simplified yoga poses with alphabetized animals and objects, ABC Yoga features colorful illustrations of children and animals practicing yoga along with playful rhymes to explain each movement. A fun family read, this interactive title is perfect for teaching toddlers their ABCs, as well as introducing them to familiar animals and basic, simplified yoga poses that promote health and well-being. Each letter of the alphabet is paired with an engaging illustration mimicking the various animals' natural movements. Clever rhymes explain how toddlers (and their parents!) can copy the poses, each of which encourage movement, physical fitness, and mental health. The 26 yoga poses, one for each letter of the alphabet, are renamed for easy understanding, while an index at the end of the book identifies the correct name for each asana (yoga pose) for the adults. The engaging illustrations and playful rhymes encourage children and their parents to get up and move, promoting physical activity, learning, and togetherness.
Here's an interesting article explaining the needs of babies, our/society's unrealistic expectations of their behaviour which clash with what is actually completely normal for a carry mammal (i.e. human). It's published in La Leche League's Breastfeeding Today alongside my poster We All Love To Nurse. Read the whole article Why Babies Need to be Carried and Held.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! A new book with illustrations of mine has hit the shelves - Marco Polo's Journey by Oxford University Press (Australia + New Zealand). For this, I illustrated a variety of maps with some spot illustrations depicting Marco Polo's travels.
The National Park magazine asked me to design and illustrate a timeline for the NPCA's Centennial in 2016...lots of fun and interesting facts to find out for me! Here it is, featuring some notable dates, like acquisition of Grand Canyon, Civilian Conservation Corps, and Martin Luther's speech on National Mall.
Here it is, this month's desktop calendar free for you to download. A little late as it's a busy time of year and lots of new projects just started for me, but I hope you still enjoy this December scene with meteor sky!
It's getting wintery! Here's an illustration for German parenting magazine Leben+Erziehen. It's for a story about a polar bear cub and a snow bunny who are having an adventure in the snow with scary footprints! I also designed and illustrated two quizzes for the kids page.
Happy October! Watch out - here come the AnaRchY kiDs who've been using matches and cake knives since their first birthday and who've been secretly watching you change gears and use the gas pedal and can do it aLL bY TheMSelVEs! Here are some promotional pieces based on New York that I've worked on over the summer. Researching the map for kids based activities was fun! I didn't know how amazing this place is for kids! The children's book page is a from my book with Bloomsbury, called One Day, but in its original colour palette, I changed it to girlie pink in the final version due to character changes.
Here are some illustrations - all part of a big outdoor map - that I've created for a holistic place offering animal assisted therapy called Weidenhof in the Black Forest in Germany. Here, kids and adults can experience nature, animals (in particular horses), practice Yoga and learn about the environment. My map shows the variety of activities on offer: barefoot walk, bug hotel, herb garden, outdoor kitchen, willow woods, forest sofa, archery, etc. It's a charity-run back to nature kind of place that does a lot to support socially deprived or abused children, you can find more about it here: Touched by Horses Pferde Bewegen Menschen
Over the summer I've created some illustrations for friends and their businesses. My friend Emelie Hill Dittmer just re-launched her website and I created some illustrated icons for it. Emelie's a Swedish freelance journalist based in the UK and you can see her new website and brilliant work here.
Since autumn has arrived yesterday here where I am - here's a seasonal illustration from a few years ago...when health and safety and childproofing were not on our list of concerns yet :). I still do think a werewolf is a great costume for trick or treaters though!
Pablo's Travelling Notebook is now out, by Oxford University Press Australia! Pablo starts sketching in his notebook but then loses it in the airplane cabin and other kids who find the journal add their own travel adventures to it. When I illustrated this book I was also preparing for a long distance flight to one of the countries featured - South Africa! Here are some of my favourite images from the book:
A little while ago I illustrated these rainy day indoor activities for Highlights Hello! Here's the toddler boy and his mum with a range of indoor play ideas from Peek-a-Boo to storytime! Both a favourite in our home on stormy days!
